New GRE

The Graduate Records Examination (GRE) is an assessment of a student’s general aptitude. The GRE test scores are used for admissions into universities in the U.S. and other English speaking countries.

As of 2011, the GRE test pattern has been completely overhauled. While the basic pattern remains the same, new question types have been added in both the Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning sections. There is no change in the Analytical Writing section.

In the Quant section, there are two new question types. One is an MCQ with more than one correct answer. All the correct answers have to be marked for this type of question. The second new type is a numerical entry question which does not provide any answer choices.

In the Verbal Reasoning section, there are two new types of sentence completion questions. One is a sentence equivalence question for which two correct answers have to be be marked. The other is a text completion question which might require filling in more than one blank.Reading Comprehension questions might also have more than one correct answer in the new pattern of the GRE.

Barron's New GRE: The Leader In Test Preparation comprehensively covers the new pattern. All question types are reviewed extensively with examples and exercises. The book also consists of a diagnostic test and two full length model papers that reflect the revised GRE test pattern.

The book is divided into five parts, which cover topics such as Introduction/Diagnostic Test, Verbal Ability: Tactics, Review, and Practice, Analytical Writing: Tactics, Strategies, and Practice, Quantitative Ability: Tactics, Strategies, Practice, and Review.

The first part of the book provides a general timetable for a GRE test, then introduces the GRE test pattern and scoring, and provides a diagnostic test for self-assessment.

The second part covers Verbal Ability - Sentence Completion and Reading Comprehension questions. The third part, Analytical Writing, provides practice and strategies for Analytical writing.

The fourth part, Quantitative Ability sections covers Data Interpretation Questions, Discrete Quantitative Questions, Mathematics Review, General Math Strategies, and Quantitative Comparison Questions.

Finally, the fifth part consists of two model GRE tests.
